To create this Aquanaut Luce women’s travel watch, Patek Philippe drew inspiration from the manufacturer’s ingenious Travel Time dual-time zone mechanism.
This unique system has become a feature of the men’s Aquanaut Reference 5164. The two buttons on the left side of the case set the local time. But in order to retain all the elegance and sophistication of the Aquanaut Luce that women love, the manufacturer reinterpreted this practical and user-friendly function, combining two innovations: a new quartz movement with dual time zone function, Calibre E 23-250 S FUS 24H, and a discreet and practical setting system through the winding crown.
This device requires the electronic movement to be equipped with a dual time zone mechanism, similar to the dual time zone mechanism of all Patek Philippe world time and travel time watches, but here is controlled by a clutch pinion that activates the manual setting instead of a button. The new quartz movement is as meticulously crafted as the manufacturer’s mechanical movement.
The new Aquanaut Luce Travel Time Reference 5269/200R has two central hour hands-a hollow hand represents home time, and a solid hand represents local time. When its owner changes the time zone, the hour hand of the local time can be set forward or backward in one-hour increments using the crown drawn to the middle position, which will not affect the speed accuracy of the movement.
During the stay abroad, the hollow hands will continue to display the home time, combined with the day/night display at 6 o’clock. Travel Time’s dual time zone system can also be used to display time in other longitudes.
When the watch owner is not at home or the second time zone is no longer needed, the winding crown can be used to superimpose the two hour hands into a single hand. In this way, Aquanaut Luce Travel Time combines two watches into one: a casual and elegant model suitable for all occasions, which can be instantly transformed into a dual time zone watch for those who travel and communicate over long distances.
The rose gold 38.8 mm case is equipped with a non-screw-in crown (making the travel time function practical and unobtrusive) water-resistant to 60 meters. The contrasting polished and satin-brushed finishes complement the matte white dial and matching strap. The dial shows an embossed Aquanaut pattern under the rose gold three-dimensional numerals and rose gold rod-shaped hands, and the solid hands have a luminous coating. The one-piece white composite strap uses a patented folding clasp, which is secured by four independent buckles.
