On Geneva Watch Day, the brand launched the lightest tourbillon to date-De Bethune DB28 Steel Wheels Sapphire Tourbillon.
Space, time and light
Since its establishment, De Bethune has mastered blue. The DB28 steel wheel sapphire tourbillon is no exception. In this version, De Bethune transformed its triangular bridge into a sapphire bridge with a touch of iconic De Bethune blue. The transparency of the sapphire gives unobstructed views of the gears and the two barrels. The spotless mirror polishing on the dial is parallel to the polishing of the case, and it may take several days to achieve such a perfect mirror polishing.
The triangle bridge brings us a serious “Star Trek” atmosphere, but the new sapphire bridge on the DB28 is not the only reason. In fact, the two barrel splints have been replaced by transparent sapphire integrated into the movement. Each sapphire component is emphasized by a polished titanium frame, giving it a powerful display of depth and precision.
The sapphire transparency sets off the DB2019V5 self-made movement composed of 272 parts, and provides an unprecedented unique vision for the movement and the architectural lines of the watch. However, the true star of De Bethune DB28 Steel Wheels Sapphire Tourbillon is the tourbillon. It is the lightest De Bethune has ever made, weighing only 0.18 grams and made of 63 extraordinary components. The triangular splint also holds the tourbillon made of titanium and silicon with a perfectly symmetrical smile. De Bethune has been incredibly forward thinking about how the brand creates its watches. Even with a futuristic appearance, the watch fits seamlessly on the wrist thanks to the patented floating lugs introduced by the brand earlier this year. Unsurprisingly, this 43mm titanium timepiece retains the unique De Bethune design code, which is perfectly balanced with modern and bold aesthetics.
It’s hard not to be fascinated by such craftsmanship. The watch fits our wrist perfectly, and the mirror polish makes it hard to stop staring. The hour markers are also perfectly round, reminiscent of the delicate and iconic Bethune moon. To be honest, De Bethune DB28 Steel Wheels Sapphire Tourbillon may be my favorite Geneva watch day.
