Zenith Defy Extreme series

The brand’s Defy series is masculine and super bold.

Zenith has once again expanded its Defy series, which is bolder and more masculine than the previous version. However, in terms of innovation, the Defy series has always been the brand’s playground. Therefore, Zenith has launched a series of advanced and creative Defy in the past few years. For the new Zenith Defy Extreme, the Swiss brand is raising testosterone by several levels.

The current style of the Defy series has existed for two years and has undergone many interpretations and innovations. Whether it is the unique material of the housing or the breakthrough new oscillator, the technological progress of the Defy series is the key. In addition to technological innovation, Zenith also likes to play creative games through its Defy series, such as Defy 21 Felipe Pantone, Urban Jungle and Ultraviolet as proof. The highly modern design has been pushed to new limits in the new Defy Extreme.

From the outside, the case has been redesigned to look sharper than before. The size of the case is increased to 45 mm, the thickness is 15.4 mm, and the use of micro-sprayed titanium, micro-sprayed titanium and polished gold or brushed, polished and micro-sprayed titanium mixture. The structure of the watch case has a 12-sided ring under the bezel, which extends to the 12-sided back of the watch. Defy Extreme also has sharper edges on the case, extending into the structure of the matching bracelet. Now, the buttons used for the chronograph are wrapped by the comparison piece, matching the material of the side ring of the dial 12 to match other details.

Compared with the easier-to-use brushed and polished matte, the micro-sprayed titanium version makes the appearance of Defy Extreme more secretive. The titanium case pushes the bold appearance in another direction, which may not be liked by everyone. The theme of the watch also continues on the dial side. For each version, an automatic chronograph movement in black, gold or blue has been chosen. The dial of the Defy Extreme has a light blue sapphire crystal plate with an oversized and slightly overlapping counter for the chronograph.

The time is indicated by the enlarged hands, thereby increasing the robust appearance of the watch. The chronograph is indicated by 9 small dials, and the other two small dials are a 60-second timer (60 o’clock) and a 30-minute timer (3 o’clock). Most importantly, there is also a power reserve indicator. The large faceted hour scale and 1/100 second scale complete the indications on the dial.

In terms of performance, Defy Extreme did not disappoint. It is equipped with Zenith’s El Primero 9004 self-winding movement. The movement is equipped with two escapements, one is used to maintain time, the escapement running speed is 36,000vph, the other is a chronograph, the escapement running speed is 360,000vph. The second adjustment mechanism is to respond to the huge energy demand of the chronograph function to indicate the elapsed time as low as one hundredth of a second. When engaged, the central chronograph hand rotates one revolution per second. In order to get enough power for the two independent escapements, the double barrel can store up to 50 hours without using the chronograph. The movement has passed the test of the chronograph laboratory, was classified as an astronomical watch and obtained certification.

Each Zenith Defy Extreme is equipped with a titanium three-chain bracelet to match the appearance of the case. It is connected to a highly practical interchangeable strap system that allows the bracelet to be replaced with a complementary rubber or Velcro strap. All models are waterproof to 200m.
