Seiko Introduces the Ultra-Thin Solar-Powered Astron Watch
Now equipped with a quick-release strap.
To celebrate its 145th anniversary, Seiko continues to push the boundaries of high-end quartz watches. The newly launched Astron GPS Solar-Powered Dual Time Zone Chronograph series includes four new models, all powered by a new multi-functional quartz movement, featuring a streamlined case design and a push-button interchangeable strap system compatible with standard titanium bracelets and various silicone straps.
Since 1969, Seiko replica has been at the forefront of quartz technology. Since 2012, the brand has launched a series of GPS-synchronized solar-powered quartz watches under the Astron name—a tribute to the groundbreaking original from 1969.
The modern Astron watch has pushed quartz timekeeping technology to its limits. While not the most accurate quartz watch in itself, its satellite link allows it to synchronize with network time and automatically adjust to local time when traveling.
Given the numerous technologies housed within—including a solar-powered mechanism—Astron watches have always been large-sized timepieces. The new dual-time zone chronograph, at 43.4mm in diameter, while not small, is only 12.4mm thick, about 1mm thinner than its predecessor—a welcome improvement.
However, even more exciting news lies outside the case: a completely new interchangeable strap and bracelet system. Straps have always been a weak point for Seiko and Grand Seiko. Grand Seiko replica made significant progress this year with a new bracelet for the Spring Drive UFA Ushio 300 dive watch. Now, Seiko has introduced its own new bracelet technology, incorporating a push-button replacement system in the end links.
For those who associate quartz watches with Casio G-Shocks, Swatch MoonSwatches, and Apple Watches, the Astron’s four-figure price tag may seem excessive. But it is a rare, truly technologically differentiated modern hardware product. It requires no charging cable, its firmware is designed for extended lifespan, and its hard-coated titanium case remains as good as new even after many years.
In other words, it’s designed to be both aesthetically pleasing and reliable, lasting even as most other quartz watches would have aged or become obsolete. For those who appreciate Japanese craftsmanship, even though the brand has moved production of its entry-level watches overseas, the Astron watch is still made in Japan.
Quick-Release Strap
This interchangeable strap system integrates a push-button release mechanism on the end link of the strap. In fact, this system is similar to that of the Vacheron Constantin Overseas series. Since the end link of the strap itself is connected to the case via a spring bar, it’s possible to adapt this system to existing Astron models, but the brand hasn’t publicly promoted this possibility. In any case, it seems like a versatile and ingenious solution, albeit a slightly bulky one. https://www.chrono-wrist.co.uk
This limited-edition anniversary watch, numbered HAB004, comes with a blue and white two-tone silicone strap in addition to the standard titanium bracelet. The two-tone strap complements the light blue dial perfectly.
In addition, three more watches have been added to the Perpetual collection: HAB001 (dark blue), HAB002 (grey-blue), and HAB003. The HAB003 features a gold dial and forgoes the traditional bracelet, opting instead for a standard black silicone strap.
The new Astron watch is powered by the new 5X63 movement, offering a rich array of functions while maintaining a slim profile. These include solar charging, internet time synchronization, automatic local time adjustment, automatic daylight saving time adjustment, a perpetual calendar, a second time zone, and a chronograph function accurate to 1/20th of a second. In short, it’s a fully functional chronograph.
The movement itself isn’t more accurate than a standard quartz watch, with a monthly error of ±15 seconds without GPS synchronization. However, in everyday use, the Astron will synchronize with internet time, so any effort to improve its inherent accuracy is largely pointless. wholesale watches replica
