First Look: Bell & Ross Unveils the BR-05 Chrono Snow Rocket—A Bold New Take in Red and White
This limited-edition BR-05 Chrono features a crisp white and vibrant red color scheme, accented by ski-inspired hands and other subtle modifications that lend the dial a cleaner, more refined aesthetic.
Since its debut in 2020, the Bell & Ross BR-05 Chrono has appeared in numerous iterations. Notable versions include the “Green Steel” model—distinguished by its bright green dial and mechanical enhancements—as well as the A523 edition (created in partnership with the Alpine F1 Team) and a special edition dedicated to the Patrouille de France. The new Bell & Ross BR-05 Chrono Snow Rocket draws its inspiration from the world of speed skiing. With its white dial and striking red accents, it introduces distinct design tweaks that set it apart from its predecessors.
The timepiece pays tribute to French speed skier Simon Billy, who set a world record of 255.50 km/h in 2023. The red elements mirror the colors of his racing suit, while the white dial evokes the snowy terrain of his sport. The red pops vividly against the white background, and black details add depth to the dial. A small seconds sub-dial sits at 9 o’clock, balanced by a 30-minute chronograph counter at 3 o’clock. The chronograph hands work in tandem with an internal tachymeter scale to measure speed. Despite the bold new color palette and complex chronograph layout, the dial remains exceptionally legible.
Several design adjustments have been made, most notably to the numerals. While most BR-05 Chrono models feature Arabic numerals at 12 and 6 o’clock with baton-style indices for the remaining hours, this version utilizes red, italicized numerals. The red hour and minute hands are also entirely new; their design is inspired by the sleek, elongated shape of competitive skis, departing from the standard skeletonized metal hands found on other models in the collection. The date display has been relocated to the 6 o’clock position. While other BR-05 Chrono models feature the date between 4 and 5 o’clock, this version places it at the bottom center of the dial, creating a more balanced layout with the two chronograph sub-dials flanking the center.
The perfect replica watch is housed in a 42mm stainless steel case with a thickness of 14.25mm, featuring a mix of satin-brushed and polished finishes. It is equipped with a screw-down crown and offers water resistance up to 100 meters. Powering the BR-05 Chrono Snow Rocket is the self-winding BR-CAL.326 chronograph movement—based on the Sellita SW510 and utilizing the architecture of the Valjoux 7750. This upgrade was first introduced in the green-dial steel model, replacing the modular ETA 2894-2 movement found in earlier versions. The movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides a 60-hour power reserve. Through the sapphire crystal case back, one can see the silhouette of a skier in red—a subtle, refined detail referencing “Billy.”
The BR-05 Chrono Snow Rocket is available with a choice of two straps: a red textured rubber strap or a stainless steel bracelet. The steel bracelet lends the watch a more understated character, while the rubber strap enhances its vibrancy, giving the overall look a sportier edge. Released as a limited edition, this timepiece offers a fresh take on the BR-05 Chrono, skillfully drawing inspiration from sports while transcending the typical color palettes associated with traditional motor racing. The only point of uncertainty is its price…
