The 230 series gets a playful and bright twist on design.
Urwerk has generally tended to use darker tones in its case designs, with a few exceptions, such as the EMC Time Hunter’s Stormtrooper-like white ceramic. However, the new Urwerk UR-230 Polaris marks another bold and novel break. The watch’s case is made from a ceramic-based white composite, which gives it a surprising and very natural feel, expanding the aesthetic possibilities of the recent UR-230 series.
The new Urwerk UR-230 Polaris case is made from an advanced ceramic composite that exhibits a complex layered structure. Its polymer base is interwoven with ceramic sheets and lightweight silver-toned fiberglass layers that enhance the structural strength. The resin that encases these fiber layers gives the case a striking white color. When machining the complex shape, the structure is exposed, creating a visual effect that changes as light interacts. Urwerk art director and co-founder Martin Frei reveals that the design was inspired by the futuristic aesthetic of the Discovery 1 spacecraft from Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey and NASA’s Apollo 11 era. “It’s got NASA cool all over it,” he says.
The UR-230 Polaris case may look very different, but it’s the same black DLC-treated titanium and CTP (Carbon Thin Layer) carbon case as last year’s Urwerk UR-230 Eagle, measuring 44.81mm wide, 53.55mm long and 18.38mm thick. One notable difference is that there is no moving cover to protect the sapphire crystal, but instead a specially developed detent to ensure gentle closing – the new UR-230 offers a permanent and unobstructed view of its satellite mechanism. best replica watches
The new model also features the brand’s signature satellite-style rotating hour display. The three-arm carrousel carries a rotating hour cube, with the current hour displayed on the cube closest to or pointing towards the wearer. Minutes are indicated by a three-dimensional retrograde hand that sweeps along a dedicated track. The hour disc, indices, and automatic winding indicator are painted in white Super-LumiNova for enhanced readability in low light, and glow blue. The 60-minute marker and the automatic winding “off” position are hand-painted in red luminous (green light), adding a splash of color to the predominantly black display.
The Urwerk UR-230 series is powered by the UR-7.30 movement, a sealed, self-contained movement that beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a 48-hour power reserve. The movement features a twin-turbine system that minimizes the effects of external shocks and optimizes airflow to the winding mechanism. An adjustable “air brake” also allows for fine-tuning of winding efficiency. replica Richard Mille McLaren
