Elapsed time – Franck Muller Skafander Chronograph

Franck Muller copy followed the Skafander diving watch and launched a new chronograph, bringing more tactile pleasure

As we all know, diver watches usually have a round case, or at least a round crystal. They are designed in this way to incorporate a rotating diving chronograph bezel-allowing divers to calculate the time spent underwater. In addition, the poor layout of gaskets leads to reduced water resistance, so it is a huge engineering challenge to produce dive watches with other case shapes. Despite this, Frank Muller launched their first dive watch with an iconic barrel-shaped case last year.

This is certainly not an easy challenge, but Franck Muller has done it again. This time, the standard has been raised by adding a chronograph, which not only complicates things further, but also makes waterproof gaming more difficult. Skafander, meaning “diving suit” in Romanian-is undoubtedly a watch suitable for diving, equipped with a sufficient water resistance of 100 meters. It is powered by a self-winding movement with a 42-hour power reserve. pocket watches

One of the main new features of Skafander Chronograph is its non-traditional chronograph and dive timer. No, I am not referring to the split-seconds/minute-seconds function. This new watch actually has two elapsed time trackers and four buttons! This unexpected novelty allows the user to activate two independent systems that can be used to record two independent events at the same time.

Equipped with four pushers, it is very important to firmly fix each pusher in place to avoid accidental activation. In order to achieve this, a unique push lock system is specially designed to ensure absolute underwater safety and accuracy. Another challenge is to include a dive timer, as it is an essential element for the watch to obtain the ISO-6425 official diving certification. Due to the shape of the case, it is obviously impossible to place an external rotating diving bezel on the case, so Franck Muller cleverly placed a rotating disc on the dial (just like in the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Diver and IWC Marine Timepiece As found in the copy watch models). It can be set/adjusted via the buttons at 8 o’clock and 10 o’clock, and it feels like a brand new execution (except for the standard time version of this watch) to provide exactly the same results as the standard external rotating bezel.

The dial is carefully crafted with a variety of planes and textures, as well as sharp contrasting colors to highlight the basic elements of diving measurement/reading. Due to the partial hollowing out, some of the wonderful components of its movement are exposed, bringing a little mechanical life to the dial. Like most diving watches, Skafander has large and clear luminous filled hands and pointers, which can be clearly seen underwater or in dark environments.

Every detail of Skafander has been carefully designed and made to create a unique and practical dive watch with Davy Jones Locker. Skafander has a variety of case materials to choose from, namely stainless steel, titanium and 18k rose gold.
