Chopard Mille Miglia 2020 Competition Edition

The matte black case and striking retro style are the latest chronographs to join the Mille Miglia team.

Originally scheduled to be held in mid-May, but cancelled due to the pandemic, the Mille Miglia 2020 edition starts today. From October 22nd to 25th, 400 classic cars will participate in the regular race from Brescia to Rome and 1,000 miles backward. The race will travel through the Italian countryside and attract hordes of classic car fans. As the partner and official timer of the Mille Miglia race in the past 32 years, Chopard will show the latest Mille Miglia Race Edition chronograph to each team participating in the race before participating in the starting line. In the rest of the world, two chronograph-certified chronographs will be issued in limited editions of 1,000 and 250, one of which is stainless steel treated with black DLC, and the other is two-tone black DLC steel and 18k rose gold. .

Since 1988, Chopard has been a partner and official timer of 1000 Miglia, the most important regular season of classic cars in the world. As Chopard’s co-president, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele’s passion for mechanical watches can only be compared to his passion for vintage cars. Participating in the legendary Italian racing competition is a natural thing. In the past 32 years, Chopard has launched a new Mille Miglia timepiece to celebrate this event. Mille Miglia cheap men watches are classified in the Classic Racing series, represented by a more modern GTS version and a more classic retro style Race Editions. So far this year, we have seen two versions of GTS Azzuro Chrono and GTS Azzuro Power Control with beautiful blue dials. Today, Chopard launched the Mille Miglia 2020 competition edition, which aims to bring the spirit of classic racing into the wrist.

Both chronographs are housed in a 42mm sandblasted stainless steel case with DLC coating. The black DLC coating is more modern than other old Mille Miglia models. Its coating ensures a scratch-resistant, non-reflective surface, and is intended to echo the bronze finishes commonly found on vintage cars. Other mentions of the automotive world include a screw-in crown that mimics a gasoline tank cap and is decorated with a steering wheel pattern, and a timing button designed to look like an engine piston.

The only difference between the two chronographs can be seen on the stepped bezel. The first model uses the same matte black surface treatment as the case, while the second model uses an 18k rose gold bezel for more fashionable wear. In order to match the grainy texture of the case, the rose gold (of course ethical) has also been pearlized.

Vintage touch on the dial
The black varnished dial follows the design style of the case and shows a matte, slightly grainy surface. The old-fashioned yellow color of the minute track and tachometer scale (a must for racing enthusiasts) is clearly visible against a black background. According to the classic 3-6-9 configuration, the three counters respectively display clear yellow marks in the elapsed time of 30 minutes, 12 hours and continuous seconds. The hour and minute hands and large retro Arabic numerals are all treated with Super-LumiNova.

The date window is located between 4 o’clock and 5 o’clock, with white numbers and a black background to match the dial. Last but not least, at noon under the title “Chopin Observatory” is the famous red 1000 Miglia direction arrow. The only other red touch on the dial can be appreciated on the tip of the central chronograph second hand.

Chronograph certified movement
The Mille Miglia 2020 competition version uses an automatic chronograph movement (ETA-2892, equipped with a Dubois-Depraz module) and has passed the COSC chronograph certification. With the sound of the motor at the regular frequency of 28,800vph, the battery life is up to 42 hours. The watch can maintain a steady rate of + 4 / -6 seconds per day. The sapphire crystal case back highlights some of the functions of the self-winding movement, including the tourbillon decorated with Côtes de Genève.

Strap
Both Chopard Mille Miglia 2020 Race Edition swiss watch men are displayed on a black calfskin strap, and are inspired by the same color stitching and perforation design, inspired by racing gloves. The black rubber lining is inspired by Dunlop racing tires in the 1960s, and the folding clasp is made of sandblasted DLC-treated steel to match the case.
