Cermet was originally used by Audemars Piguet on watches such as Royal Oak Offshore Schumacher and Royal Oak Offshore Jarno Trulli. It was first used by AP on Jarno Trulli in 2010, and then all three iterations of Schumi. Cermet is a very advanced composite material commonly used in the manufacture of space shuttle heat shields. Its name is the result of the shrinkage of the terms “ceramic” and “metal”. Cermets are corrosion-resistant and very hard, with a hardness rating of 2360 Vickers.
Almost as hard as the diamond’s 2,400 Vickers hardness, making Cermet a wise choice, it can be used for a bezel that maintains overall brightness while easily exposing scratches. The new Richard Mille RM 11-05 Cermet Flyback Chronograph GMT is limited. This is the brand’s first use of Cermet. The combination of carbon fiber TPT strap, grade 5 titanium case back and gray cermet bezel can significantly reduce the weight of RM 11-05. The added grey cermet is suitable for the pure aerodynamic lines of the iconic case, with a size of 50 x 42.70 mm and a total thickness of 16.15 mm.
