Grand Seiko launches the new Spring Drive “Goshendu” SBGY007 watch
Grand Seiko (Crown Blue Lion) often draws inspiration from the natural beauty around the watch factory. It is located in Lake Suwa in Nagano Prefecture, near the Shinshu Time Craftsmanship Workshop that provides innovative ideas and cutting-edge technical support for exclusive Spring Drive watches. Today, the brand has launched a new Spring Drive “Goshinto” watch (model: SBGY007), whose dial design is inspired by Lake Suwa in winter.
Every winter, Lake Suwa freezes. Due to the flow of hot springs at the bottom of the lake, the ice surface stretches to form cracks and ridges, which looks like an ice road. This natural phenomenon became the source of the legend of “Goshindu”, which was said to be the Shinto gods crossing the frozen Lake Suwa, so there was an ice road.
The texture of the ice blue dial reproduces the ups and downs of the frozen lake. Grand Seiko craftsmen create this pattern effect by hammering the dial mold. The faceted hour markers are curved to fit the curvature of the dial. The hour and minute hands are unmatched sharp, and the blue steel seconds hand slides across the dial in a scanning manner, truly reflecting the continuous flow of time. The minute and second hands are also manually bent to find a delicate balance between the dial and the mirror. The exquisite dial, with exemplary hour markers and hands, fully demonstrates the brand’s “Nature of Time” design concept.
In 2019, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the birth of Spring Drive, Grand Seiko released four Spring Drive manual winding watches and two new movements, 9R02 and 9R31. The 9R02 is made by the miniature art master workshop, while the 9R31 is made by the Shinshu Time Craftsman Workshop. The two movements are beautiful in appearance and impressive in technology. The new SBGY007 watch is equipped with the 9R31 movement.
The 9R31 movement transfers the power reserve from the dial side to the movement side, so that the dial is only used to display the time, which is more simple and symmetrical, while retaining the dynamic reserve display function of a manual winding perfect Fake Watches. In terms of architecture, the 9R31 movement is the same as the 9R02 movement. It is equipped with a double spring, has a high accuracy of ±1 second per day, and a power reserve of up to 72 hours. Compared with the single-spring, the double-spring is longer and thinner, extending the dynamic storage without reducing the torque, and at the same time ensuring the slim profile of the movement.
The 9R31 movement utilizes a single bridge to improve robustness and energy efficiency. The craftsmen of the Shinshu Time Craftsmanship Workshop carefully hand-finished the movement. The bridges are decorated with exquisite brushed patterns, revealing the inlaid gem bearings and blue steel screws, as well as the precision-running gear train. Although the 9R31 movement is assembled from more than 200 parts, it is still the thinnest Spring Drive movement produced by Shinshu Time Craftsmanship.
The Grand Seiko Spring Drive SBGY007 watch is equipped with a crocodile leather strap decorated with blue stitching.
